The Future of Takeout
This exhibition will present results of a unique collaboration of students from Industrial Design and Communications Design with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC).
The amount of plastic generated by single-serve items, such as plastic utensils, containers, straws, and bags offered by the numerous take-out restaurants, delis, and food carts in the Greater New York area is considerable. Due to littering or other causes, many of these items travel through the storm drains and end up in the waterways around New York, polluting New York Harbor.
The class works on alternative non-plastic, marine-friendly packaging and ways of serving take-out food.
